Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan — Key Facts
2. Why Jordanian Nationals Choose Colombia
Jordan has long been a regional hub for education, healthcare, and professional services in the Middle East. The country's internationally accredited hospitals — including King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) and Jordan University Hospital — attract medical tourism from across the Arab world. However, Jordan's domestic economy faces structural challenges including high youth unemployment and limited natural resources, prompting many skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and business families to explore opportunities abroad. Colombia's robust technology sector in Bogotá and Medellín, its real estate market, and its growing Arab diaspora community — particularly in Bogotá's Suba and Chapinero neighborhoods — offer Jordanians an increasingly familiar and commercially active destination.
Jordan's role as a regional medical tourism hub for patients from Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Sudan has cultivated a class of internationally experienced healthcare, finance, and logistics professionals. Many of these individuals seek Colombian residency via the Migrante visa M-10 (investor) or M-13 (employer-designated employee) routes. The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) experience also gives Jordanian business owners familiarity with free-zone investment models, which parallels Colombia's Zonas Francas (free trade zones) and creates natural synergies for cross-border business development.

4. Entry to Colombia — Visa Status
⚠️ Prior Visa Required for Colombia
Passport holders of this country are not included in the visa exemption list (Resolución 5488 de 2022) and must obtain a prior Colombian visa from the nearest consulate before traveling. Visit cancilleria.gov.co for current requirements.
Jordanian passport holders are not included in Lista A or Lista C of Resolución 5488 de 2022. You must obtain a Colombian visa in advance before boarding any flight to Colombia. The appropriate visa type depends on your purpose of travel: tourist visa (Permiso de Ingreso y Permanencia — PIP), Migrante visa (Visa M) for longer stays, or Residente visa (Visa R) for permanent residency. Apply through the Colombian Embassy in Amman or via visa.cancilleria.gov.co.
5. Migrante Visa (Visa M) — Long-Term Stay Pathways
If approved for a Colombian visa and intending to establish longer-term residency, Jordanian nationals most commonly pursue the Visa Migrante (M). The four most relevant subcategories are listed below. The SMMLV for 2026 is COP 1,423,500/month.
| Visa M Type | Main Requirement | Minimum Threshold (2026) | Government Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| M-2 | Spouse or permanent partner of Colombian national | Marriage certificate or notarial union declaration | USD 255 + USD 232 |
| M-7 | Pensioner / Retiree | Pension income ≥ 3 SMMLV = COP 4,270,500/month | USD 255 + USD 232 |
| M-10 | Investor in Colombia | Min. 100 SMMLV = COP 142,350,000 in Colombian real estate, securities, or company | USD 255 + USD 232 |
| M-13 | Employee of Colombian legal entity | Formal employment contract with Colombia-registered employer | USD 255 + USD 232 |
All Visa M applications require valid travel and health insurance compliant with Migración Colombia requirements. There is no double taxation treaty (CDI) between Jordan and Colombia.
6. Travel & Health Insurance for Colombia
Both tourist and Migrante visa holders must demonstrate valid health and travel insurance coverage in Colombia. Jordan's Royal Medical Services (RMS) and Ministry of Health coverage do not extend to Colombia. A comprehensive CoVisas Colombia policy covers all seven mandatory areas:
Jordan's healthcare system — including Jordan Hospital (largest private), Al-Khalidi Medical Center, and Islamic Hospital Amman — operates to internationally recognized JCI-accredited standards. Colombia's top hospitals (Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe in Medellín) are comparably equipped. Your CoVisas policy bridges both systems, ensuring coverage in Colombia from arrival day one.

7. Tax Obligations — Jordan & Colombia
In Jordan: The Department of Income and Sales Tax (DIST) administers a progressive income tax with rates ranging from 5% to 20% on Jordan-source income. Jordan operates a territorial tax system — residents are taxed on Jordan-source income; foreign-source income is generally not subject to Jordanian income tax. There is no capital gains tax on securities listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), and no inheritance tax. The Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZA) provides a 0% income tax rate within the zone, incentivizing foreign investment and business activity.
In Colombia: Spending more than 183 days in Colombia within a 365-day period triggers Colombian tax residency, imposing income tax at progressive rates up to 39% on worldwide income. Non-residents pay flat rates only on Colombian-source income. There is no CDI between Jordan and Colombia. This creates potential double-taxation exposure. Consult both a Jordanian tax advisor (familiar with DIST regulations) and a certified Colombian contador público before establishing Colombian residency.
8. Document Legalization — Apostille (3 Steps)
Jordan acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 6 November 2020. Documents issued in Jordan now require only an apostille for use in Colombia — no longer requiring the longer diplomatic authentication chain. The three-step process is:
- Obtain the Official Document from the issuing Jordanian authority: Passport and Civil Affairs Department or the relevant ministry for official records; Public Security Directorate (PSD / مديرية الأمن العام) for the Criminal Record Certificate (سجل عدل / Sijil 'Adl); Ministry of Education for academic certificates. Ensure the document carries original signatures and official seals. Note: criminal record certificates may require application at the Passports and Civil Affairs Department or via Jordanian Embassy abroad.
- Apostille at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (وزارة الخارجية — Wazarat Al-Kharijiyya, Amman). Since Jordan's accession in 2020, the Ministry issues apostille certificates for official documents. Processing time and fees should be confirmed directly with the Ministry, as the apostille service is relatively recent. The apostille is accepted by all Hague member states including Colombia.
- Certified Spanish Translation by a Colombian sworn translator registered with Colombia's Ministerio de Justicia y del Derecho. An Arabic-to-Spanish certified translation must accompany all apostilled documents submitted with your Colombian visa or residency application.
