Lebanese Tax System Overview

Lebanon's tax authority is the Ministry of Finance. The personal income tax is progressive with rates reaching up to 25%. Crucially, Lebanon applies a territorial tax system: only income earned in or sourced from Lebanon is taxable for individuals. Foreign-sourced income is generally not subject to Lebanese personal income tax, which has historically made Lebanon attractive for the diaspora.

Lebanon has no capital gains tax and no inheritance tax in the conventional sense, though some transfer taxes apply. The country had an extensive banking secrecy tradition that, combined with the Lebanese diaspora's global remittances, historically sustained the economy.
