2. Why Vincentian Nationals Choose Colombia

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, an archipelago of 32 islands spanning the southern Windward Islands and the northern Grenadines, has a predominantly agricultural and tourism-based economy. The island nation of Mustique and the wider Grenadines are internationally recognized for exclusive private island tourism, generating high-value economic activity. Despite this, the overall domestic job market for skilled professionals and entrepreneurs remains limited relative to larger economies. Colombia's Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena offer Vincentian nationals significantly broader professional platforms, access to an expanding fintech and tourism sector, and a cost of living that remains competitive compared to North America and Europe.

Saint Vincent's healthcare system, while supported by CARICOM mutual agreements, refers complex cases to Barbados or Trinidad. The country's offshore financial sector, the private economy of the Grenadines, and the NIS (National Insurance Scheme) for disability and maternity coverage form the core of the social protection system. Vincentians exploring Colombian residency should note that Colombia's Caribbean coast — particularly San Andrés island, Cartagena, and the Rosario Islands — offers cultural and geographical continuity for Caribbean islanders. Colombia's investor and pensioner visa categories are accessible to Vincentians who have accumulated savings or investment capital.

✅ VISA-FREE — Up to 90 Days / Res. 5488 de 2022

Passport holders of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (San Vicente y las Granadinas) appear on Lista A of Resolución 5488 de 2022. This entitles you to enter Colombia as a visitor for up to 90 days per entry, extendable once to a cumulative maximum of 180 days within a calendar year, without requiring a prior visa. Entry is permitted through any authorized Colombian immigration checkpoint. Always carry your valid Saint Vincent passport and ensure it remains valid throughout your stay.

5. Migrante Visa (Visa M) — Long-Term Stay Pathways

To remain in Colombia beyond the tourist allowance — to work, invest, retire, or join a Colombian partner — you will need a Visa Migrante (M). The four most relevant subcategories for Vincentian nationals are shown below. The SMMLV for 2026 is COP 1,423,500/month.

Visa M Type Main Requirement Minimum Threshold (2026) Government Fee
M-2 Spouse or permanent partner of Colombian national Marriage certificate or notarial union declaration USD 255 + USD 232

All Visa M applications require a valid travel and health insurance policy. There is no double taxation treaty (CDI) between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Colombia.

6. Travel & Health Insurance for Colombia

Migración Colombia requires proof of valid health and travel insurance for all Visa M applicants. Saint Vincent's NIS provides no reciprocal coverage in Colombia. A comprehensive CoVisas Colombia policy covers all seven mandatory coverage areas required by Colombian immigration:

The Milton Cato Memorial Hospital serves Kingstown, with community health centers across the Grenadines. Complex cases are evacuated to Barbados or Trinidad. In Colombia, cities like Cartagena (Clínica Universitaria San Juan de Dios) and Barranquilla (Clínica General del Norte) have modern facilities. 7. Tax Obligations — St. Vincent & Colombia

In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) applies income tax at progressive rates up to 30% on Saint Vincent-source income. There is no tax on foreign-source income for non-resident taxpayers. Saint Vincent has no capital gains tax and no inheritance tax. The offshore financial sector, particularly the private island economy of the Grenadines (including Mustique), generates significant economic activity outside of public-sector employment. CARICOM healthcare and social security agreements provide limited regional social protections.

In Colombia: More than 183 days in Colombia within a rolling 365-day period creates Colombian tax residency, triggering income tax liability on worldwide income at progressive rates up to 39%. Non-residents pay flat rates only on Colombian-source income. There is no CDI between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Colombia. Seek advice from both a Vincentian tax advisor and a certified Colombian contador público before formalizing your residency to avoid unintended double taxation.

8. Document Legalization — Apostille (3 Steps)

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 12 June 1981. Documents issued in Saint Vincent require apostille before use in Colombia. The three-step process is:

  1. Obtain the Official Document from the issuing authority: Civil Registry (Kingstown) for birth, marriage, and death certificates; Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force HQ (Kingstown) for the Certificate of Good Character; Ministry of Education for academic transcripts and diplomas. Ensure documents carry original signatures and official seals.
  2. Apostille at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Kingstown). Processing typically takes 3–7 business days. A government fee applies. The apostille certifies document authenticity for all Hague Convention member states including Colombia.
  3. Certified Spanish Translation by a Colombian sworn translator registered with the Ministerio de Justicia y del Derecho. Submit both the apostilled original and the certified translation with your Visa M or residency application.
